The research purports to focus on collecting, categorizing and organizing a variety of Korean-Japanese organizations during Japanese Imperialism to create a systematic data base. During Japanese Imperialism, Koreans voluntarily migrated to Japan to learn and work, and also, they were deracinated—i.e. forced immigration—from Korea to Japan by Japanese Imperial government. These groups of Koreans lived in various regions of Japan, and form various Korean-Japanese communities. Korean-Japanese were oppressed and were considered strangers to Japan, thus, they had to form organizations to survive. It was indispensable to be a part of the social organizations and its activities amongst Korean-Japanese during Japanese Imperialism.
However, there has not been a thorough research on Korean-Japanese organizations during Japanese Imperialism. There have been some researches which were specifically weighted towards metropolitan areas such as Tokyo and Osaka, and this tendency allowed only a certain representative of Korea-Japanese organizations to be valued and recognized. Even those biased researches were largely based on the then police and bureaucratic information which were unilateral and political motivated. Also, these researches did not properly utilize newspapers and magazine articles to give a broad spectrum of information.
This newly found research will overcome the limits of past researches by utilizing the regional edition of the major Japanese newspapers and the local papers of those days. This approach will maximize our capacity to collect, analyze and organize articles of Korean-Japanese organizations and its activities. Based on our findings, it will suffice in structuring a detailed database of each Korean-Japanese organization. The database will include a duration, history, activity, membership and characteristics of each Korean-Japanese organization, and any-and-all identifiable information thereof.
Therefore, the construction of the database has a following significance: 1) Organizations included in the database had a huge influence on Korean-Japanese community as a whole, thus, it will contribute in investigating a formation of Korean-Japanese community, its processes, and historical significance and identity. 2) The database plays a vital role in elucidating the structure and characteristic of Korean-Japanese community. 3) The construction of the database will allow intensive and systematic informational processing to be possible, thus, it will play a major role in invigorating future researches on Korean-Japanese community.
