- The 1st World Humanities Forum
- The 1st World Humanities Forum, which is jointly hosted by MEST, UNESCO, and Busan Metropolitan City and jointly organized by NRF and Korean National Commission of UNESCO, is to attempt multifaceted review from the humanistic perspective of cultural scientists, philosophers, artists and actors over the challenges that we face in the 21st century.
-
Today, high expectations are put on the role of humanities such as a presentation of vision and insight. In the 65th anniversary of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, UNESCO secretary-general, emphasized that new humanism is required in “the current era where globalization is intensified, mutual relations are expanded, and uncertainty is increasing together with new economic, financial, and social challenges.” Irina Bokova also insisted that UNESCO and international societies should provide answers to the question, “How can we prevent disruption of mankind and establish the base for development and peace?” as core challenges we face today.

- General purpose of Forum is as follows:
- 01. From the viewpoint of humanities, we review the core challenges and tasks that mankind faces today
- 02. Diagnose the present situation of humanities under such challenges and tasks
- 03. Emphasize the role of humanities in handing the tasks given to mankind today
- 04. Keep considering humanism.

- To promote the discussion among world-class scholars about exploring the implication presented to global villagers in the 21th century by the tradition of humanism in various cultures and the recent performances of humanities
- To emphasize the tradition of humanism, and the value of humanities under this current situation
- To continuously maintain the intellectual exchanges and cooperation between foreign and Korean scholars in the field of humanities.
