  • 아웃소싱은 중요한 전략적 의사결정의 한 분야이며, 글로벌 마켓에서의 경쟁전략으로 급속히 성장하고 있다. 과거에 제조업체들은 설계, 구매, 생산, 분배 전과정의 비즈니스 프로세스를 내부적으로 수행하였으나, 지금은 많은 기업들이 핵심역량(예, 설계)만을 자체적으로 수행하고, 나머지 프로세스들은 전문화된 아웃소싱 파트너들이 수행하고 있다. 특히, 반도체 산업의 경우에는 설비투자비가 매우 크고 제품의 수명주기가 매우 짧기 때문에 칩생산전문기업인 파운드리 업체에 칩 생산을 아웃소싱하는 팹리스 기업들이 많이 출현하였으며, 팹리스업체는 거의 대부분 중소기업들이다. 한편, 아웃소싱에 관한 연구문헌들이 매우 많지만, 팹리스-파운드리 업체간의 아웃소싱에 관한 문헌은 거의 없는 상황이다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 한국과 미국 양국의 팹리스-파운드리 업체간의 아웃소싱 의사결정 모델(예, 아웃소싱 프로세스, 의사결정 기준 및 공급자 평가 요소)에 대해 설문조사를 통해 비교연구하였다. 연구결과는 한미 양국 중소 팹리스 업체들의 아웃소싱 의사결정 및 모델개발에 도움을 줄 수 있들 것으로 기대된다.

  • Outsourcing has become a very important strategic decision for many organizations, and grown rapidly to obtain competitive advantage in a global market. Manufacturing firms carried out all their business operations from design, purchasing, and manufacturing, to distribution in the past. However, they now attempt to focus on their core competency (e.g., design) and improve cost efficiency in manufacturing by outsourcing purchasing, manufacturing, testing, or packaging to suppliers who have specialties in those operations. Especially, in semiconductor industry where a tremendous amount of investment in facilities is required and product life cycle is very short, outsourcing of chip production to semiconductor foundries has been inevitable and accelerated. The firms which outsourced their chip production are called fabless companies, and most of them are small-to-medium sized companies. Although there is ample research on outsourcing in the literature, fabless company-specific outsourcing research is scarce. Thus, this research aims to study on outsourcing practices at fables companies in the US and Korea (e.g., outsourcing processes and criteria, and supplier performance measures) through a survey, and to assist the small-and-medium sized fabless companies to successfully develop global outsourcing decision models.

  • 한미 양국의 반도체 중소기업들인 Fabless Companies에 대해 설문조사(survey)를 수행하였다. 이를 통해 아웃소싱 의사결정 평가항목과 파트너 선정에 영향을 미치는 항목들의 중요도에 대한 차이점에 대해 비교연구하였다. 한미양국 기업간에 국가간 차이점과 유사점을 파악함으로써 글로벌 아웃소싱 의사결정에 활용할 수 있으며, 아웃소싱 파트너 기업(반도체 중소기업인 Foundry업체) 측에서도 Fabless업체의 의사결정을 이해함으로써 아웃소싱 계약과 관리에 도움을 줄 수 있을것으로 기대할 수 있다.
