동아시아 철도 네트워크의 기원은 서구와 일본 제국주의 국가들의 중국과 조선, 그리고 만주와 몽고를 둘러싼 지정전략적이고 지경전략적인 경쟁과 충돌에서 시작되었다.(중략) 본 연구는 동아시아 철도건설과 발전과정은 동아시아 지역국가 간의 세력관계와 지역강국 간의 세력전이 과정을 극명하게 보여주고 있다고 주장한다.

The construction process of regional railway networks in East Asia were the outcome of constantly changing combinations of status quo among imperialistic regional states. Railway construction in China and Korea was the very results of imperial wars and by the rule of winner takes all, the monopolistic right to construct and manage railways in the region were transferred to the winner country.(중략) This article tries to illuminate historical experiences in order to improve current understanding towards inter-states economic competitions related to regional railway construction.
