The purpose of this paper is to investigate types and causes of errors on prepositions, and suggest the efficient teaching methods on preposition in English writing. For this study date were collected by analyzing the students' two English free writing of assignments given as a requirement in the basic English composition class at KNU (Korea Nazarene University) in 2000, fell. Findings showed that there were three types of errors on prepositions. They were omission errors, addtion errors and misuse errors of preposition. They showed that students in the basic level of English would rely on what they know- native language rules with which they are familiar. They indicated that many errors were caused by interlingual transfer and intralingual transfer. This study implies that we should have more efficient teaching methods on prepositions in English education.
