이 글은 가부장적 교육문화와 학교체제 속에서 여교사가 겪는 심리적 갈등과 모순의 실체를 드러내고 그 해소방안을 모색하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위하여 이 글에서는 서양의 여성학자들이 성역할과 관련된 이데올로기를 기술하기 위하여 사용하는 ‘두 세계의 분리’- 남성들이 독점하는 公的 세계와 여성의 세계로서의 私的 세계의 분리- 라는 개념적 구분을 분석의 틀로 사용하였다. 여교사가 심리적 갈등과 모순을 느끼는 것은 근본적으로 상이한 두 세계에 그들이 동시에 속하게 되었기 때문이라는 전제 하에 두 세계의 근본적 상이점을 지식과 권위의 개념에 비추어 설명하고 한국사회에서 여성들이 어떻게 그 두 세계에 동시에 속하게 되었는지, 그리고 그 두 세계에 동시에 속하게 된 것의 의미는 무엇인지를 역사적인 관점에서 조명하였다. 이러한 과정 속에서 여교사가 처한 갈등상황을 드러내었고 그러한 갈등상황을 해소하기 위하여 연구자와 피연구자, 그리고 교사와 학생의 위계적 관계에 기반 한 기존의 교사교육방법론이나 교사교육프로그램이 아닌, 그 양자의 상호작용과 상호침투를 촉진하는 교사교육의 개발을 위한 몇 가지 제안을 하였다.

The aim of this paper is to analyse and eliminate women teachers' psychological contradictions and conflicts in Korean education and school system. For this aim, this paper uses 'the separate spheres' metaphor - the public sphere inhabited by man and the private sphere inhabited by woman- that has been used by western feminist scholars to describe a historically constituted ideology of gender relations. This metaphor leads us to understanding that women teachers feel contradictions because they occupy the two 'different' spheres 'simultaneously'. This paper explains how the public and the private sphere are different in the light of the concepts of knowledge and authority, how Korean women have historically come to occupy the two spheres simultaneously, and what it means to Korean women teachers. Finally this paper, to eliminate women teachers' contradictions, proposes several suggestions for the 'new' teacher education, totally different from the existing teacher education methodology and program which is based on the hierarchical relationship between the researcher and the researched, teacher(university professor) and student(pre-service or in-service teacher).
