이와 같은 수많은 자료 중에 하타씨족에 관련된 일본의 자료들은 다른 어느 씨족들에 못지 않게 많은데도 그것이 우리나라에는 별로 소개되지 않았고, 더구나 일본에서도 하타씨족에 관련된 일련의 설화를 종합적으로 분석한 연구가 이루어진 것이 많지 않다는 사실도 알게 되었다. 이에 본 연구는 하타씨족에 관련된 설화를 중심으로 그들이 일본에 이주 정착하는 과정에서 토착문화와의 충돌을 어떻게 굴절 변용하여 나타내고 있는지에 관해 살펴보고자 하는 것이다.

Hata-family in the folktale, who was a patriarchal class in Korea, immigrated with their peoples from Korea to Japan at the Eungsin times. Thus, there is in Gwangnyungsa, which is a temple built by them, a wooden Mireukbangasayusang which is similar to a bronze Mireukbangasayusang of Silla. Besides they gave a name called Gyerim to temples.
But their origin is described inconsistently. In Ilbonseogi it is described that they have come not from Silla, but from Baekje. But on the basis of Sinchanseongssirok, they identify themselves not as descendents from Baekje, but desendents from Emperor Si of Jin in the ancient China. This is attributed to a distortion triggered by a change of their views of the ancient Korea. In revealing their origin, they have met not only national but also international situations sensitively and tried to search for their own authority in the outside world.
On the contrary, while they settled down in Japan, they accepted local native religions actively. When they accepted Buddhism from the continent, their Buddhism had a character of Silla. But as they built a temple of native religion, they didn't persist in their religion, but accept native religions of local residents actively. Thus they established a firm foundation. Songmidaesa and Dohadaesa serve as good examples. In this way, uniting and transforming two heterogeneous cultures of Korea and Japan, they have settled in Japan.
