All of the biblical creation accounts include definitions of what people can and cannot eat. In Gen 1:29 God gives plants and fruit for human consumption. In the second creation account, humans can eat of every plant and tree, except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Gen 2:17). In the re-creation account after the flood, for the first time humans are allowed to eat meat, just not the blood (Gen 9:3–4). Most scholars see the link between creation and food as a sign of providential care, however others have argued there is a theological purpose, such as linking kosher food laws to the orders of creation. It is argued here that the gift of manna in the wilderness serves a dual purpose as well. It not only tests the obedience for the Israelites, but promotes thinking about how Israelite society in the Promised Land should function.

본 연구는 인류의 고전인 성경에서 우리가 당면한 부의 불평등 심화 현상에 대한 해법과 그 모델을 찾고자 하였다. 코린토 2서 8-9장에 나오는 바오로의 헌금 권고 이야기와, 여기에서 바오로가 인용하고 있는 탈출기 16장 18절의 배경인 만나 이야기를 통합적으로 고찰하고, 이에 기초하여 현대사회의 커다란 문제로 대두되고 있는 부의 양극화 현상을 성찰하고자 하였다. 이를 위해서 해당 자료를 통해 만나 이야기가 구약성경, 후기 유다교, 신약성경에서 각각 어떤 관점에서 해석되고 있는지 분석하였다.
