It can be said that Korean college students have difficulty in listening to the news on account of a few listening obstacles, for instance, the lack of vocabularies and sociocultural background knowledge, especially the fast speech rate including complex sound phenomena. So, this paper is to suggest that Korean students who experience some troubles in listening to the news, try to solve their listening problems and improve their listening ability through the natural contact with target culture by listening to the VOA(Voice of America) news on Internet. To study its effectiveness, a survey was conducted after the project. According to the results of this study, they could somewhat adapt themselves to the fast speech rate and gradually understand even the details of the news by listening to the slow news on the Internet. More significantly, collaborative listening based on a top-down process, or listening to the news and summarizing it, enabled them to develop their listening strategies, and improve reading, writing, speaking simultaneously, not just listening.
