구성주의 시각은 "학습자는 외부 원천으로부터 지식을 수동적으로 받아들이기 보다 그들의 이미 존재하는 개념적 구조와 관련해서 그들의 지식을 적극적으로 구성한다"는 인식론적 원리에 기초한다. 이러한 구성주의적 시각은 교수에 관한 믿음과 교실실제에서의 급진적 변혁을 촉진시켰다. 즉 교사중심에서 학습자 중심으로, 암기 주입식 학습에서 문제 중심학습으로, 수동적 학습에서 자기주도적 학습으로, 개별적 학습에서 협동적 학습으로의 변화이다.

이 글의 목적은 하나의 인식론으로서 구성주의 사고가 교수-학습맥락에서 가질 수 있는 역할에 대해 탐구하는 것이다. 여기서 도출될 수 있는 교수-학습원리를 정리해 보고 이러한 원리에 부합되는 교수모형에 대해 살펴본다. 결국, 구성주의 관점에서 추구하는 수업목적은 학습자들에게 그들 자신의 가능한 해석을 구성하는 방법을 보여주는 것이므로 실재의 다양한 시각, 해석, 지식구성, 맥락적이며 경험에 근거한 활동을 지원하는 학습환경이 요구된다.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the nature of constructivism as an epistemology and the role constructivist thinking can have in teaching and learning contexts. This paper starts by detailing a constructivist view of knowing, then explores some of the possible relations between this view and the teaching-learning process.

Construtivist learning thory is based on the idea that knowledge is actively constructed by the learner. This notion has led to call for a dramatic shift in classroom focus away from the traditional transmission model of teaching toward one that is much more complex and interactive. From this perspective, learning is understand as a process of building up structure of experience, a self-regulated process of resolving inner cognitive coflicts.

So, in this paper, instructional principles and models(problem based learning, group learning), for the desing of a constructivist learning environment, were examined. Thus, it is needed that constructivist learning environments shoul support multiple perspectives on interpretations of reality, knowledge construction, context-rich, experience-based activities, reflective thinking.
