이 연구의 목적은 한일 양국이 20세기에 생산해낸 정치‧경제 관련 연구의 현황과 특성을 조사하고, 그러한 연구가 양국의 정치‧경제관계의 변화와 어떠한 상관관계를 갖고있는지를 ‘서지학적’ 관점에서 논의하는데 있다. 이를 위해, 이 연구에서는 ①20세기 한일간 정치‧경제관계를 주요 사건과 쟁점을 중심으로 살펴본 후, ②한일 양국이 정치‧경제분야에서 서로에 대해 생산한 단행본을 포괄적으로 수집하여 시기별‧주제별‧생산주체별 현황과 특성을 분석하였다. ③나아가, 한일 양국의 정치‧경제관계의 변화와 생산된 단행본의 상관관계를 파악하고자 하였으며, ④끝으로, 한일 양국간 정치‧경제연구의 진전과 성숙을 위해 그 동안 생산해온 연구물을 효과적으로 관리하기 위한 제도적 장치의 필요성을 제기하였다.

The purpose of this study lies in investigating the present state and characteristics of monographs produced by Korea and Japan, which are the research products on each other's political and economic situations for the period of 1901-2000. To this end, we identified the major political and economic events and issues in the Korea-Japan relations, also collected comprehensively the monographs produced by each country regarding each other, and analyzed the present state and characteristics of the monographs with a special emphasis on the publication period, subject matter and producer. Also identified was the relationship between the production of monographs and the Korea-Japan political and economic relations from a historical perspective. Finally, we suggested the necessity of a knowledge and information system for both effective management and efficient control of such research products.
