An encyclopedic introduction to China, 'The General History of China(中華帝國全志)(1735) is one of the three major documents that played a leading role in the foundation of the study of Chinese studies in Europe in the 18th century. In 1735, Jean Baptiste Du Halde, secretary to Le Tellier, the confessor of Louis XIV of France, published four volumes of Chinese Wrote the Geography, History, Chronology, Politics, and Museum of the Empire and its Tatars The overall situation in China was described. Considered a 'Chinese Encyclopedia', this masterpiece was first published in Paris in 1735, and then republished in The Hague the following year. Later, R. Brookes published an English version under the signature of The General History of China. Volume 1 is a history of geography and compilation of each province, Volume 2 is politics, economy, scriptures, and education, Volume 3 is religion, morality, medicine, and museums, Volume 4 is Manchuria, Mongolia, Tibet, and comprehensive description of Joseon. This book contains records of Joseon by Regis, whom Lee Gi-ji met.
