This study established the concept of 'athlete-centered coaching' for the holistic growth of Korean student athletes in physical, cognitive, psychological, social, and moral aspects, and developed a sports instructor education program based on athlete-centered coaching. We intend to apply this to future sports coach training to verify its effectiveness, to improve the problems of the current domestic sports coach training program, and to provide a standard model for the implementation of a desirable elite sports coach training program in response to future social changes. The contribution of this study to the development of sports education and physical education, the elite sports field, and society is as follows.
First, this study can lay the groundwork for the desirable improvement of professional and elite sports ecosystems through sports coach education that reflects the social demands recently thrown into the sports world. The athlete-centered coaching sports instructor education program to be developed in this study will provide a basic philosophy and guidance method for the holistic growth of athletes. This can improve the various social problems arising from the game-centered and result-oriented player development philosophy and system of Korea's elite sports, respect the human rights of players, and create a player-centered coaching culture that can take responsibility for their holistic growth and future. This player-centered coaching culture enhances the image of sports leaders and teams, which can create a virtuous cycle of social development through sports and qualitative improvement of the sports ecosystem through social development by rethinking the development of professional and elite sports and social roles. there is.
Second, this study can lead a practical follow-up study from an athlete-centered perspective in the future elite sports field. The research on the conceptualization of 'player-centered coaching' collected and developed in this study and the development of educational programs is based on the knowledge, behavior, thinking process, interaction and relationship establishment with athletes, and training and game situations of sports leaders studied from the existing coach education perspective. It can lead theoretical and empirical research that can analyze and reinterpret various process and outcome variables, such as leader coping and social roles, from the perspective of 'player-centered coaching'. In particular, comparative studies linked to overseas sports coach education research can provide broad implications for domestic elite sports coach education. In addition, the research on player-centered coaching will contribute to the academic expansion of sports education by accumulating theoretical foundations and empirical research results that can contribute to holistic growth in physical, cognitive, psychological, social, and moral aspects as well as player performance. In addition, the expansion of this field will lead to interdisciplinary convergence research with various fields of physical education, which are the basis for elite sports guidance such as sports psychology and sports sociology.
