장애에 대한 신경 심리학적인 연구는 최근에 새롭게 개발되고 있는 연구 기술에 힘입어 장애 아동의 두뇌 발달과 그 기능에 대한 다양한 정보를 제공하고 있으며 실제로 두뇌 연구는 아동의 인지 및 학습에 관한 구체적 증거를 제시하고 있다. 소아정신과와 발달심리학 영역에서는 두뇌연구에 기초하여 실제 교육 프로그램을 개발하고 있으며 특수교육 영역에서도 이러한 기초연구에 기반을 두고 좀더 과학적인 교육프로그램의 개발이 필요하며 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 그간에 장애와 관련된 두뇌 관련 연구를 연구 방법론을 중심으로 연구 성과를 살펴보고 그것에 기초하여 장애 아동을 위한 교육적 중재 가능성을 제시하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 그간에 얻어진 두뇌 연구 자료를 인지 및 학습 용어로 번역하여 교육 실제에 이용하여야 한다는 의견이 제시되어있다. 장애 두뇌 연구 분야는 아직 초기 단계이나 그 잠재적 가능성에 비추어 보다 체계적인 연구와 활용이 요청되는 것으로 밝혀지고 있다. 보다 많은 학제간의 연구를 통하여 장애 아동의 교육에 있어 두뇌 장애에 따른 차별적 개별 프로그램의 개발이 시급함을 알 수 있다.

A Study on the cognition and Learning of the disabled by their differential brain dysfunctions.
The area of neuropsychological studies on the disabilities is growing very fast due to the newly developed neuropsychological techniques, imaging techniques and research methods. Special education has recognized its importance for a long time and we even put the ideas in the definitions, but practical applications have to wait for the factual knowledges form the field research. Now, the time has come to search for the practical implications and its applications to the special education. The technical sophistications, on the one hand, and down to earth practice orientation of the special educators, on the other, have been the barriers to the development of special education research in this field but the availability of knowledge and the possibility of interdisciplinary endeavor will make the special education specialists use the informations for the application. It is necessary to translate the brain research findings into the cognitive and learning terms. Here are the some data and references gathered that show the possibility of utilizing the theory and data of brain studies for practical use. This area of research is not familiar to the special education researcher and practitioner but if we overcome the theoretical and terminological difficulties we would make lots of use out of it in the education of the handicapped with their organic and developmental disabilities. The research will help us to draw many practical and theoretical implications.
