This study is to investigate the synthetic characteristics on the four-guardian statutes and data found at the Songgwang-sa, Sooncheon. In particular, the study analyzes in the five aspects such as: 1) kang, Soon-Ae, "The Bibliographical Study on the Pophwakyong-hyunchan-hegotongkum-sincho vol. 1‧2 found in the Chests of Four-Guardian Statutes at the Songgwang-sa, Sooncheon". 2) Park, Chi-Sun, "A Study on Conservation of Songgwang-sa's Buddhist Scriptures". 3) Kim, Sang-Ho, "A Study on the Engravers of two books, Myobeopyeonhwagyeonghyeonui, Beophwamungugi". 4) LIm, Young-Ae, "Direction and the Period of the Four-guardian Clay Statues in Songgwang Temple". 5) Han, Kyeong-Soon, "A Study on the Technolo-gical Processes of Four-Guardian Statutes at the Songkwang-sa, Suncheon".
First, Dr Kang studies the history of four-guardian gates and statutes of the Songgwang-sa, the physical and bibliographical characteristics of the Buddhist scriptures, the comparison of Pophwakyong-hyunchan-hegotongkum-sincho vol. 1‧2 and the Bulgung-sa Edition vol. 5․6: annotator, the bibliographical characteristics, proofing and engraving. It is approved that Pophwakyong-hyunchan-hegotongkum-sincho vol. 1‧2 are at once the Koryo kyojang and belongs to the Liao Edition and have the value of cultural properties as a national treasure.
Second, Dr Park researches the basic examination by reference for conservation of the Buddhist scriptures. There are the other 5 Buddhist scriptures in Songgwang-sa, which are the national cultural relics. They have already been examined about the quality of the lumber through the project for conservation of cultural relic from 2002 till 2003.
Third, Dr Kim is to try to observe the feature and meaning of two books, Myobeopyeonhwagyeonghyeonui, Beophwa-mungugi with name of engravers. Research result could be summarized as follows: 1) it is about 2/3 for the engravers' name entered in margin of leaves, 2) the others are printed by supplement plates, 3) this fact means that original plates and economic situation were not good, 4) between the original plates and supplemental plates, there was a common feature like engravers' name, font, space of lines, outside line, etc., 5) and that means two books were published by similar body in almost same time, same place, 6) so many engravers were participated to large publishing project, not to printing only two books, 7) there was a difference to each ability of engravers carves the letters on the woodblock, 8) each engraver had his own style and ideal font.
Fourth, Dr Lim solves the problems about the direction and the building period of the four-guardian statues. Though there still remain a lot of controversy about these problems for which the way of writing in each temple varies, I could make the accurate direction of the four-guardian statues clear with the above materials. By the way, I made the comparisons between the styles of Songgwang Temple and its neighboring temples, and I could conclude that the period of building was 1628 A.
Fifth, Dr Han focuses on the structure of Four Heavenly Guardians in Songkwang Temple and the technique of stucco in clay as well as its pigments used in the painted surface of the figures at examining the techniques and materials which was applied in the Four Heavenly Guardians of Songkwang Temple
