The advent of the roof-tile character was Seo-Han dynasty. In the early period of Han dynasty, the Pattern of roof-tile mostly dominated. In the period of the King of Han wu, the roof-tile character had appeared, but as it went into the later period of the King of Han wu, the roof-tile character started to disappear. As it went through Wi-Jin Nam Book Jo times, the roof-tile character was only used to record the King's era and then became disappeared eventually. In noticing the transition of the roof-tile character in the Han Wu period, it is highly worth studying in respect to the roof-tile character.
Decorating roof-tile by means of using a character was the reaction to express the human's arts, food and clothes. The roof-tile character that came out in the Han dynasty period is considered various and plentiful expressions. Other than Kil-Sang words (an auspicious sign), the roof-tile character was used for the purposes of edifices and for the social position. According to the excavated roof-tiles' contents, the number of different kinds of roof-tiles' contents is about more than three hundred kinds. Of these many different kinds of roof-tiles, more than half of them are roof-tile of Kil-Sang(an auspicious sign) and the roof-tile character. The author has classified in seven categories of names: palaces, government offices, tombs, shrines, records Kil-Sang words(auspicious words) and a miscellaneous style. Among these styles, I will discuss about Kil-Sang words in the main chapters.
The scientific value of Kil-Sang's composition is viewed as the value of history and culture. The contents that were recorded on other roof-tile characters have provided us various research data, such as the names of palaces, names of government position, geographical features, customs, family names, and the like. Mun Yang's roof tile is regarded to as the indirect ways to express the contemporary history and culture.
On the other hand, roof-tile character is the direct descriptions to express the contemporary consciousness and ideology and to express the psychological reaction toward the Han dynasty' privileged, which had plentiful contents.
The popularity of the roof-tile culture to the Han dynasty, which kept four hundred years of its history, is diverse, not only in its character style itself, but also in styles that marked characters. The diversity of the roof-tile character has abundant contents especially when it is compared with patten's roof tile. Through the medium of character, various ranges were transmitted from generation to generation, and the roof-tile character that was used to express in a variety of ways shows the efforts of artisan, the desire of the nobility's life, and their sorrow. It can be understood through grasping the roof-tile of Kil-Sang, that was handed down as a meaning of Eastern ideas' incantation.
