The thesis of this research is "A Comparative Study on Religious Education in Korea, Japan, and U.S.A.". The purpose is to diagnose and improve the problems of religious education of secondary school in the South Korea. The contents of this research are summarized as following.
In first research ("Policy and Education about Religion in Korea"), researcher examined the problems of religious education through policies about religion. He examined some characteristics of religious situation including religion's problems in Korea (Ⅱ. Characteristic of religious situation in the South Korea), problems of current policies of religion (Ⅲ. Korean Religion Policy), and remedies of problems of religious education (Ⅳ. Religious Education in Korea). And he, through these examinations, insisted that religious education in Korea should take aim at a kind of liberal education.
In second research ("Policy and Education about Religion in Korea, Japan, and U.S.A."), researcher compared religious education through policies about religion in Korea, Japan, and U.S.A.. And considering the strength and weakness of religious education in three countries, he presented remedies for religious education in Korea. As well as, he laid stress on deep understanding of religious education itself. Items that he examined for comparative study were as these; current religious contexts (2. Current Religious Contexts in Korea, Japan, and U.S.A.), policies about religion (3. Policies about Religion in Korea, Japan, and U.S.A.), institutions and contents of religious education (4. Religious Education in Korea, Japan, and U.S.A.), and remedies of religious education (5. Conclusion: Proposals for Remedy).
In third research ("History and Current Contexts of Religious Education in Japan"), researcher examined religious education in Japan to remedy the problems of religious education in South Korea religion education. Items that she examined were as these; concept of religious education (1. Definition and Problem of Religious Education), its history (2. History of Religious Education in Japan), its current contexts (3. Current Contexts and Problems of Religious Education in Japan), and meanings of religious education in Japan's educational system (4. Conclusion). Sentiments' education that means religious education in Japan is more a matter of public/governmental secondary school than voluntary/nongovernmental secondary school. About this, she reflected dualism of sentiment's education in Japan's public education system.
In fourth research("Critical Reflection on Religious Education in Korean Secondary School"), researcher examined the problems of religious education in systematic dimension. Items that she examined were as these; history of religious education in secondary school (2. History of Educational System Relating Religious Education), freedom of religion (3. Legal Understanding on Freedom of Religion in Voluntary Secondary School), various problems of religious education (4. Institutional and Phenomenal Understanding on Religious Education. Through this research, we can take a view of the various problems about religious education at legal, educational and systematic level.
In fifth research ("Religious Education of Public/Governmental School in U.S.A."), researcher examined policies and current contexts relating religious education in U.S.A. Items that she examined were as these; social backgrounds of religious education (Ⅱ. Current Contexts and Policies of Religious Education in U.S.A.), analysis and its basis of various laws relating religious education (Ⅲ. Religious Education and Constitution), various issues and remedies of religious education (Ⅳ. Religious Education and Supreme Court in U.S.A.).
These researches diagnosed the problems of religious education and presented some new directions of those in Korean secondary school.
