In Gao Xing-jian's work Zen Buddhist way of thinking is clearly embodied. It is not incorrect that Zen Buddhist way of thinking is the result of concern about the form founded consistently from the start of Gao Xing-jian's career as a literary man.
1. A mix of a personal pronoun and the theory of not -two
In Gao Xing-jian's work 《The Mountain Ling靈山》 the first ,second and third person is used in disorder. It is interesting to find the theory only groping mechanically for the form combine with Zen Buddhist way of thinking to unify both style and content.
2. A structure of the whole of chapter81 and Buddhist pilgrimage.
The whole of chapter 81 is chapter of 《Lao-tzu老子》, also is chapter of 《His-yu-chi西遊記》describing a journey to the Mt. Ling. Thus the progress going from nonexistence to existence is that can be explained to have in mind the construction of 《Lao-tzu老子》, that is, the first part explains nonexistence, the last part existence. Besides the whole of chapter 81 copy from a model of 《His-yu-chi西遊記》describing the eighty-one types of suffering.
3. A mix of the essence and phenomena.
The journey, in Gao xing-jian's work, is a form mingled the essence with the phenomena. Therefore, the first chapter is the chapter on the imagination, the second is the chapter on the essence, and the third is on the imagination again, the forth is on the essence over again, etc. But the chapter on the reality, even though, coexists with the reality that they want to escape from, and the mythic imaginary reality. Namely, it is mixed never to see what a genuine reality is.
4.A Buddhist symbolism in the name of a place
The name of a place in 《The Mountain Ling靈山》has a buddhist symbol. The place that the pilgrim want to go is The Mt. Ling, where Buddha preached 《 Saddharma-Pundarika法華經》and Kasyapa and Buddha disciples were taken Buddha's teaching. The Mt. Ling is a spot passing through Wuyizhen(烏伊鎭), Youshui(尤水). According to the description of a novel, Wuyi(烏伊) is equal to the pronunciation of Wuyi(無一), that means nonexistence, and You尤pronunciation also is equal to the pronunciation of You(有), that means existence. Thus, the start of a journey is the start from nonexistence(無), and the journey progresses from nonexistence to one(一) and finally to existence(有). So it is named Youshui(尤水, 有水)
