Making 'the agreement of Korea-Japan' after the accident of the ship, Wunyang in February of 1876, Japan started to invade Korea. For this project, Japan needed the strategic base. Japan chose Inchon, the third port to Korea, which was thought to be easy to access to Japan. Inchon opened in January of 1883, as a basic port of Japanese invasion to Korea. Characteristics of the Japanese to Korea were divided into three periods. The first period was the one, after opening port from the Chung-Japan war. In this period, almost of all Japanese, coming to Korea, had economic ends. The second period was from the Chung-Japan war to the Russia-Korea war. In this period, because Japanese government encouraged the emigration, Japanese emigranta to Korea increased much more. The third period was from the Russia-Korea war to the impulsive seize of Korea. In this period, many family immigrants and various vocational immigration increased, because Japanese domination was secure and emigration registery to Korea was much easier than before. The location of the opening port, Inchon, was used as a progressing base of Japanese invasion to Korea. Also, because of its geographic advantage, Inchon was an important base as a passing or terminal place to Korea from Japan. The Chung-Japan war and the Russia-Japan war provided good opportunities for Japanese who dreamt a great fortune. Many Japanese immigrants accumulated great fortune on the basis of Inchon, and they formed Japan society in Inchon. They established colony city in Inchon, taking the support from Japanese government.
