본 논문은 간학문적 연구의 일환으로 문화해석학과 사회심리학의 도움으로 성서와 코란을 연구하고자 한다. 본 논문은 예수의 가르침에 근거한 기독교와 무함마드의 가르침에 근거한 이슬람이 여성에 관해 어떤 입장을 갖는지 상호 비교함으로써 한국인에게 무엇이 이상적인 문화인지를 확신시키는데 있으므로, 여성신학의 관점에서 여성관을 확립하는 일도 21세기의 현대성(modernity)에 걸맞은 보편적이면서 적합한 문화적 가치라는 사실을 제안하고자 한다.
본 논문은 신약성서가 하나님의 말씀이며 예수 그리스도가 모든 인류를 구원하기 위한 계시라는 사실을 전제하면서, 코란보다 먼저 기록된 신약성서에 나타난 1세기의 예수말씀이 어떻게 7세기의 무함마드의 가르침과 연관되는지 연구하고자 한다. 이로써 본 논문은 바울서신에 나타난 바울의 가르침이 아니라 예수말씀을 통하여 여성문제와 관련된 이슬람문화를 어떻게 평가할 것이며, 여성에 관한 이슬람의 태도를 모더니즘(modernism)과 연관을 지어서 어떻게 재정립할 것인지 살펴보고자 한다.

This is a study of Jesus' sayings about women's status and role in a comparison of the Bible as a scripture of Christianity to the Koran as a scripture of Islam by using the methods of cultural interpretation, social psychology, intertextuality, narrative textual criticism, and woman's study. This paper's main concern is how the New Testament and the Gospels understand Jesus' attitudes toward women in the era of the Greco-Roman and Jewish world and how the Koran was affected by Jesus' sayings about women's status and role, because the Koran written in the 7th century knew about the New Testament which was written in the 1st century.
After the September 11, 2001 attacks, many Islam scholars are interested in the issues of Islamophobia because many Islam terrorists are armed and the world is still in war against them. I have heard many voices of Islamophobia when I prepared this paper at UC Berkely and UC Davis, USA. Hence this paper is interested in how and why Islam culture got easily intrigued with violence, duality, honor killing, and exclusiveness in relation to women's status and role and what the universal values in the 21 century that most people want to have is on the basis of modernity or modernism.
This paper compares many points with women's marriage, divorce, remarriage, and men's privilege coming from the Bible as well as in the Koran, in order to suggest the human values of women in Jesus' sayings that men and women can be equally accepted in the 21st century on the basis of universal values of modern culture. Koran's several sayings of discrimination of women and polygamy cannot be totally accepted by the Korean modern society because Korean people share the modern values like monogamy and equality between men and women.

본 논문은 성서와 코란에 나타나 있는 여성의 지위와 역할에 관한 연구논문으로서 이슬람이 어떻게 기독교의 가르침을 코란에서 왜곡하였는지를 가늠해 볼 수 있는 기초 자료를 제공하고 있다. 21세기 인류 문화의 보편적인 가치인 양성평등과 일부일처제의 숭고한 틀을 예수의 가르침이 아주 중시하고 있는 반면에, 코란에 나타나 있는 무하마드의 가르침은 이러한 현대인이 추구하는 가치와 다르다는 점을 보여주고 있는 것이 이 논문의 특징이다. 한국인에게 이슬람의 공격적인 포고와 문화의 옷을 입고 교묘하게 들어오는 낯선 문화에 관해 경각심을 높이고, 기독교가 공유하고 있는 보편적 가치 체계를 보여준 본 논문은 향후 여성의 인권문제를 연구하는데 도움을 주는 연구결과가 될 것이라 여겨진다.
무슬림여성들의 인권도 심각한 상황이지만, 아무도 그 문제를 해결하지 못하고 있다. 그들의 인권상황이 개선되기 위해서는 이슬람사회에서 여성이 교육받는 길이 열려야 한다. 앞으로 무슬림여성의 인권문제와 더불어서, 무슬림남성과 결혼한 후에 자녀까지 낳았지만 이슬람법에 따라 이혼당한 한국인 여성의 처참한 인권상황에 관한 연구들도 나오기를 희망한다. 이슬람은 한국에서 종교의 자유를 누리지만, 이슬람권에 있는 많은 한국인 전문사역자들은 봉사활동조차 보장받지 못하고 온갖 생명의 위협에 시달리고 있다. 이런 암담한 상황에서 많은 한국인들이 처참하게 인권유린을 당하는데, 향후 이 문제에 관한 국제적인 동조와 연구도 병행되어야 할 것이다.
