Women - Focused on Grounded Theory
The participants for this study were 12 immigrant women who have been married to Korean men for more than 3 years. This study employed the grounded theory method suggested by Strauss and Corbin(1998). Data were collected through in-depth interview.
Data analysis generated 149 concepts, 36 sub categories, and 15 categories. In the axil coding, a paradigm model was proposed as follows: The central phenomenon of empowerment process of immigrant women was 'Overcoming the Limits'. The causal conditions were 'Unprepared Marriage', 'Perceiving the Problems', 'Confusing'. The contextual conditions were 'Driving intiatively', 'Positively Perceiving the Situations', 'Frustrating'. The intervening conditions were 'Trying to Achievement', 'Taking Support'. The action/interaction strategies were 'Becoming Exciting', 'Taking Approval', 'Living as a Korean'. The consequences were 'Feeling a Achievement', 'Adapting Korean Life', 'Having a Hope'. In selective coding, the core category was 'To Live Independantly through Overcoming the Limits as a Immigrant Women'. Based on the core category, three types and four stages of the empowerment process of the immigrant women were founded. The types were 'Actively Achieved Type', 'Moderately Tried Type', 'Passively Living Type', and 'Confusing Stage', 'Trying Stage', 'Stable Stage', and 'Independant Stage'. Immigrant women's empowerment process had promising in the future, showed achievement, satisfaction and adapting the Korean Life, and dreamed the more developing adventure.
