This study is aimed at uncovering something new about distribution aspects and acceptance levels of the 37 kinds of <Geumhwasamongyurok> written by Korean characters(Hangeul)(38 manuscripts and 7 printed books). In the meantime, <Geumhwasamongyurok> has been studied with the different versions written by Chinese characters as the central figure. As now, the 45 kinds of <Geumhwasamongyurok> written by Chinese characters are handed down and the original version was written by the Chinese characters, it wouldn't be surprised. But in spite that the various versions written by Hangeul had distributed to come close to the versions written by Chinese characters, the interests on present conditions and material characteristics of the various Hangeul versions are very little. While many Hangeul manuscripts had distributed and the printed books had been published repeatedly, these versions are prejudged as not being different from the version written by Chinese characters and are not studied. In this study, through investigating the aspects of distribution and many characteristics about <Geumhwasamongyurok> written by Korean characters(Hangeul), I try to bring light on the differences between the versions written by Chinese characters and the hangeul versions from the acceptance history view points.
The purposes of this study are four. First, I investigated the aspects of various versions through surveying the current conditions and properties of <Geumhwasamongyurok> written by Korean characters(Hangeul). Second, I researched the relation between various versions written by Chinese characters and <Geumhwasamongyurok> written by Korean characters(Hangeul), through comparing two kinds of versions. Two versions are influenced each other during translation. Third, researching the properties of the Hangeul versions' contents, I clarified the historical consciousness and subject consciousness of the Hangeul versions, compared to the versions written by Chinese characters. And on the basis of these, I surveyed the acceptance levels of Hangeul versions. Fourth, I expanded the study to other works that coexisted Hangeul versions and versions written by Chinese characters and thenI tried to suppose the new clues for the creation and enjoyment of Mongyurok.
To achieve these goals, first I arranged the 33 basic data. I reconsidered the data forms of the various versions and tried to collect the virtual versions identified by list. In the process, I collected 4 Hangeul manuscripts and 6 manuscripts written by Chinese characters. Including newly collected materials, I arranged systematically 37 Hangeul versions, selected the valuable materials and made use of these materials in the study.
Through these studies, I extracted the study themes. (1) the current condition and the affiliation of various Hangeul versions of <Geumhwasamongyurok> (2) The translation aspects and properties of various Hangeul versions of <Geumhwasamongyurok> (3) The acceptance levels and meaning of various Hangeul versions of <Geumhwasamongyurok>. As a result of studying these themes, I identified at least 5 affiliations of Hangeul versions of <Geumhwasamongyurok>. After surveying more data, the detail classifications will be possible. After investigating the classification situation of Hangeul versions of <Geumhwasamongyurok>, understanding the genealogy of various Hangeul versions will be possible, too. These works, that find the original version influencing to the Hangeul versions and survey the properties of the translation, deserve in showing the worth of the materials. Furthermore, I researched the readers' acceptance context of Hangeul versions of <Geumhwasamongyurok> from 'the storage and conveyance of the knowledge' viewpoints. This study has significances in suggesting the new viewpoint about the creation, enjoyment and the literary function of Mongyurok.
