Korean Diaspora in Manchuria and Gasa Literature in the Japanese Colonial Era
This study, titled ‘Korean Diaspora in Manchuria and Gasa Literature in the Japanese Colonial Era’, addressed Gasa literature written by diasporan Koreans in Manchuria and by their families in Korea, for the purpose of: 1) Researching and collecting the data on lyric literature written by diasporan Koreans in Manchuria (diasporan Koreans’ Gasa literature) and by their families in Korea (homeland dwellers’ Gasa literature), wherethrough a database will be built to provide basic data; 2) Explicating all the works, tracing the social strata of the authors and historically ascertaining when they were written and what their contents are; 3) Clarifying the literary and aesthetical characteristics of diasporan Koreans’ lyric literature.
In the case of diasporan Koreans’ Gasa literature, a collection was made of 7 works, i.e., ‘Buntong-Ga (3)’, ‘Wemo-Sa (1)’, ‘Wonbyeol-Gara (2)’, ‘Joson-Byeolseo (2)’, ‘Nunmulpurin-Yibyeolsa (1)’, ‘Sinse-Taryeong (1)’ and ‘Ganun-Sa (1)’. In addition, a total of 6 works, ‘Song-Gyo-Haeng (2)’, ‘Dapsa-Chinga (3)’, ‘Gamhoe-Ga (3)’, ‘Byeolhan-Ga (4)’, ‘Dansimgok (1)’ and ‘Sachin-Ga (1)’, were collected as homeland dwellers’ Gasa literature. The numbers in brackets mean different versions. With all the data including different versions, a database will be built and the data which will be sent as an attachment.
The historical ascertainment focused on identifying the authors, and actually identified all the authors of diasporan Koreans’ Gasa literature. In the case of homeland dwellers’ Gasa literature, it was impossible to identify the authors of ‘Dansimgok’ and ‘Sachin-Ga’ after all, unlike the other 4 works, ‘Song-Gyo-Haeng’, ‘Dapsa-Chinga’, ‘Gamhoe-Ga’ and ‘Byeolhan-Ga.’
