Globally, there is a need for green architecture that considers eco-friendly methodologies to overcome global warming, pollution and resource depletion in the 21st century. In addition, since the 2000s, the numbers of hospital buildings have been increasing steadily due to the rapid increase in the elderly population with the development of medical technology and economic power. Because hospitals are operated 24 hours a day, they can be categorized as the energy-consuming building group, which produce a lot of carbon dioxide, hospital wastes and heavy metals. For this reason, there is a growing interest in eco-friendly plans for hospitals. In Korea, only some hospitals are participating in the green management of green hospitals, and it is time for various institutional support and efforts to expand participation. However, in the current Korean green building certification system, hospital buildings are recognized as being less important in terms of green concept than buildings of other building groups because there is no separate certification criteria unlike foreign certification. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to establish the assessment criteria for the certification of the green hospital buildings and to set the importance of the selected assessment criteria in order to spread the green hospitals.
In this study, two major topics were set up under the theme of 'Establishment of Evaluation Items for Activating Green Architecture Certification of Hospital Buildings'.
The first study was the proposal of the assessment criteria of the green building certification through investigation of the overseas green building certification system. To do this, I proposed specifically the assessment criteria of green building certification for hospital buildings considering both (1) micro environmental friendliness as a healing space and (2) sustainability of buildings at a macro level. Based on the results of the first year 's research, the second year' s research was 'to derive the importance of the proposed assessment criteria for the green hospital buildings through the evaluation of experts'. In particular, an expert-survey using AHP(Analytical Hierarchy Process) method was conducted in order to analyze the importances and priorities of these energy efficient factors.
The results of this study are as follows: by "Certification Assessment Criteria for activation of green building certification of hospital buildings : An Analysis of Important Factors for Energy Efficient Healthcare Facilities on Experts' Survey (Choi, 2017), the green / environmental policy personnel and researchers can utilize it as a basic data for establishing the detailed criteria for the domestic green building certification in the hospital building sector.Hospitals can understand the concept of green hospitals and the Certification Assessment Criteria in green building certification to find ways to implement green hospital more clearly. In the absence of the Certification Assessment Criteria for the domestic green healthcare building certification, the final research result can be utilized as basic data in the revision of the green building certification standard( related to the energy efficient hospital construction). In addition, hospital officials will be able to clearly understand how to implement green hospitals through a conceptual understanding of green hospitals and an overall understanding of Assessment Criteria in green building certification. Through this, it is expected to reduce the amount of energy consumed by the hospital buildings and to save the financial cost of the hospital operation, and to provide the improved healing environment and reduce the health and maintenance costs of patients and their caregivers.
