As most poststructural environmentalists point out, Deep Ecology inadvertently returns to the logocentric tradition of the West by assuming Self-Realization as its methodological premise. Multiculturalism resisting ethnocentrism that is intricately intertwined with locentrism challenges the anthropocentric view of nature which is latent in the dominant culture. By way of poststructuralist environmentalism, in other words, our contemporary ecoconsciousness attempts to deconstruct anthropocentrism and reinscribe varied human relationships. To put it another way, the theme of equality between all beings allowas a cultural, political resistance ground of noncoersive environmentalism. And the resistance should not be monocultural or monological but involve an interculturally and dialogically articulated view of nature.

Momaday's House Made of Dawn and The Ancient Child exemplifies the significance of ecological multiculturality. Able and Set, the protagonists of the novels respectively recover their own culture-based psyche which is alluded by the bear spirit. In the ecological standpoint, their recovery of the bear spirit implies that they have articulated their own ground-oriented culture with the Euro-American industrialist culture although their psychical landscape has an indispensable and irreducible relationship with the natural landscape. And by forming a multiculturalist view of nature in the two novels, the author aspires to generate a pro-environmental culture efficient and dialogical enough to sustain nature and humanity.
