This paper explores case licensing mechanisms in so-called secondary predication including complement small clauses, resultative constructions, and subject/object depictive constructions in English and Korean and argues that these two typologically unrelated languages employ different modes of case licensing in secondary predication, especially for the case licensing of the subjects of small clauses. More specifically, we argue that the subject of secondary predicates in English is accusative licensed by the higher governing verb, while that in Korean is nominative licensed by default mechanism.
