This research’s goal is to study Kim Heemyong who came to Japan from Korea during the colonial era to study and remained Japan as the first “Korean Japanese” writer. His personal history is not known so well but he was known as a person who worked for equality in Japan. His work was remarkable, however his accomplishments are not known in his home country of Korea. The reasons are 1) He stayed in Japan after he graduated from university, 2) He married with a wealthy Japanese woman during the height of the ideological crackdown and thus found his job in the Tokyo Metropolitan government, 3) He stopped his proletarian activities after he started his job in the Tokyo Metropolitan government in 1928,4) And even though he kept writing Korean history books, Korean literature researchers deemed him to be a “pro­Japanese” author due to his comfortable lifestyle in Japan. There could be many other reasons why his works are not well known to his country people, but it is sure that Kim Heemyoung released books during his early days in Japan concerning the Korean worker and their harsh working conditions in Japan. After this, he continued working on his proletarian writings in which he always spoke out for the Korean people living in Japan. In this paper, we will see the literary works of Kim Heemyong as one of the first Korean Writers in Japan. In addition, this paper has uncovered new information concerning his life in Japan.
