A diachronic approach to humanism, along with a study on the antihumanist perspective of poststructuralism, mostly represented by Michell Foucault, provides a new bearing of the humanities at this turning point of the humanities. This is not merely to describe the historical development and transformation of humanism and the humanities, but is to rethink power relationships embedded in the hidden ideologies of humanism and the humanities. This study reveals their distorted meanings and thereby offers a new direction in our time. As a conclosion, an idea of posthumanism in connection with cultural studies is suggested and discussed as an alternative to humanism and the humanities.
