This study (called “Conflict, border, perceptions between among three countries during the pre-modern period) aims to focus on the origin of conflicting in the area of East Asia. In order to complete this project, we divided on the subject depending on area and this also was divided into 17 subjects. In the first year we studied boundary perceptions and next year we did boundary conflicts. The abstracted studies in the two years are below mentioned.
【The first year】
In the East Area section, both “The study of changes in the boundaries of perception of Korea, China, Japan to notice also seen through old maps.” and “The ocean prohibition policy and recognitions of borders in East Asia during the middle age and the early modern period” show how boundary perception was changed in the East Asia.
In the Korea section, both “Vigilance toward Joseon’s Southern Districts and Japan” and “the management of islands and boundary perception of medieval and modern Joseon” concentrate on how both Korean and Japanese of boundary conception was changed in the bounda in the sea including Ulleung-do, Thusima, Dok-do
In the China section, both “A change of Korean peninsula northern boundary perception and its character in the transition period from Yuan and Ming” and The formation and the perception of the buffer zone around the border between Korean and China in the middle and modern ages –focusing on the 14th-15thcentury-“showthebackgroundofsettingboundarybetweenChinaandKorea.
In the Japan section, both “A study on Japanese cognition of boundary sector about Joseon in the Middle age and the Modern age” and “Economists of invasive perception in the period of Edo” shows how north area and perception was changed by Kyushu and Thusima’s boundary perception and Japanese in the period of Edo.
【The second year】
In the East Asia section, both “Changes in policy of maritime trade prohibition in East Asia and disputes at sea boundary” and “Boundary conflicts between Joseon and China, old maps” shows the conflicting examples in the sea boundary of East Asia.
In the Korea section, both “Conflicting of fishing business between Korea and Japan, the enforcement of the right of sea boundary” and “Land and sea boundary dispute between Chosun and Japan through the case of An Yong-bok in the end of 17th Century" suggests that the process of conflicting about fishing business and the examples about conflicting with Japanese.
In the China section, "The competition of where Jurchen has to belong between Chosun and Ming Dynasty from the end of Koryo to the early of Chosun” and “Analysis of the Liaodong territory problems during the Early Ming dynasty” and “Attempt to install ‘Jin’ in north of the Tumen River during the period of King Myeongjong in Joseon –Focused on installation of Jamo-Jin in Yieunggeo Island and a dispute with Jurchen-“. These studies show how examples about conflicting among Joseon, Ming, Yeojin illustrate the boundary conflict.
In the Japan section, both “The relations between Korea and Japan based on the boundary disseisn of Wakou in the medieval age” and “Both the Japanese and Chinese of boundary perception about Joeodojedo in the medieval age” shows not only the process of Japanese thief’s invade but also the perception of Joeodojedo where there are a lot of conflict in today.
【Collecting first materials and interpreting】 In order to collect first materials and analyze them, we hold a seminar once or twice a month. It was about analyzing first materials and debating each of them. We did this seminar 48 times (we did it 24 times per a year) and the analyzed materials were used in making a data base through interpreting, correcting, texting on original message.
【Exploring an area and arrange materials in the area】 In the first year, we explored Kyushu in Japan and Hotkaido in Japan, some researcher explored Ulreoung-do, other researchers explored Thusima in Japan and collect first materials. In the second year, all researchers started to explore the Dooman-river and the Abrok-river in between China and Korea, Yeonhae-ju in Russia, Dottori and simane in Japan. We found some materials in old documents, books, maps about the perception among three countries.
【Making a presentation and holding a seminar】 In our seminar, all researchers (17 people) made a presentation in our country and in abroad. Also all these research papers that were represented by this seminar was checked by specialist who majored in this area. Through this chance, each researcher had the chance to retrieve their own paper and all things were reflected in our project. Finally, papers made by us were published.
【Making a data base】 We made a data base in 3 steps. First, analyzing materials made by us was on the internet. Second, we took photos in the Japan and China, and all photos and materials in these nations can be copied and analyzed by us. Last, there were a lot of photos about remaining historic site or ruins. We will announce that “Conflict and border between among three countries DB” after arranging all materials.
【Publishing books and material books】 All things will be published named “Conflict and border between among three countries”. By doing so, this books will contain thesis about conflicting in the East Asia during pre-modern period. Finally we expect it will be a practical study for every person through reviewing academic studying and contradicting in many ways.
