The problem with perception and generation of Japanese sound of Korean Japanese learners have been pointed out for a long time. Especially there have been a lot of studies regarding problems and misuse trend of perception and generation of a double consonant, a prolonged sound and a contracted sound which are special phonemes. However, there is less study regarding sound a method of guidance to be utilized at the site or effects of a method of guidance.
Considering this problem, Kang (2011) conducted a double consonant guidance which Korean Japanese learners have a lot of misuses with, by utilizing vibrator와 rhythm movement of body of VT method(ヴェルボトナル·メソッド:Verbo-Tonal Method) which is not so familiar in Korea. As a result, it was found that misuse of a double consonant of learners when it comes to perception and generation is reduced and pronunciation was improved.
Based on this result, this research analyzed trend of misuse when it comes to a prolonged sound which is another special phonemes that Korean Japanese learners have problems with for perception and generation, and in order to verify the effects of VT method, 2 kinds of preliminary investigations (listening investigation1, listening investigation2) with 5 beginner and 5 intermediate Korean Japanese learners were conducted.
For listening investigation1, without giving any information, 5 beginner and 5 intermediate Korean Japanese learners listened to sound material which consists of a prolonged sound and monotone which are recorded by Japanese native speaker and let them write.
As a result, both beginners and intermediate learners have more misuse in perception of a prolonged sound than monotone, and have more misuse in perception of a prolonged sound which is at end of words than at beginning of words. It is thought that this is because of impact of Korean language which has a prolonged sound at the first syllable and doesn't have a prolonged sound from the second syllable, in other words, interference of the mother tongue.
For listening investigation2, by utilizing VT method (Warabe song rhythm, rhythm movement of body) with 5 beginner and 5intermediate Korean Japanese learners, 20 minutes guidance and practice were conducted and let them listen to the sound materials which are the same as for listening investigation 1 but with different order of words.
As a result, there has been some differences by learners, but there was an effect of sound guidance and practice utilizing VT method in result of reduced misuse of perception of a prolonged sound and monotone for both beginners · intermediate learners.
Especially in case of beginners, there was a noticeable decrease in perception misuse and this result suggests an importance of sound education at the beginner step.
In the future, it is planned to conduct an experiment by increasing number of words and surveyees to investigate perception of a prolonged sound based on the result of the preliminary survey for reliable and clear verification, and by revising materials to be used for listening investigation (adding words with a prolonged sound on the both sides of beginning and end of the words).
Also, creative Warabe song rhythm and rhythm movement of body to be used for guidance and practice will be complemented, and by conducting other sound a method of guidance and comparison study, effects of VT method will be clearly verified so that various methods of sound guidance for Japanese education site will be suggested.
