The purpose of this study is to develop a model of culture - based convergence tourism by analyzing multi - layered process of convergence of local culture into tourism resources, and to suggest a strategy to enhance it. For this purpose, the concept of convergence tourism was first established and based on this, a case study of convergence tourism was conducted and then a model for creating convergence tourism was developed.
First, we defined the concept of convergence tourism. I found the meaning of industrial convergence from convergence and conducted in - depth interview focusing on the common attributes of both. The characteristics of each category were defined through in - depth interviews with tourism experts. The major attributes of convergence tourism concept are derived from market orientation, cooperation orientation, innovation orientation, and value orientation. The subject of convergence tourism is to pursue market orientation in the industrial level, and in the process of convergence, it means to pursue cooperation orientation to implement cooperative and horizontal network among industries and innovation orientation for creative combination of contents. As a result, I sought value orientation that creates economic and social effects. Convergence tourism includes the meaning of sustainable tourism, and furthermore can be seen as a tourism paradigm.
Second, I explored the process of creating local cultural resources through rural tourism through the oral history of residents of the village of JeJu - Gasiri. Based on the analysis of social contexts, participatory observation, oral testimony, literature, and online, I typified the converging drivers, processes, and results of culture - based rural tourism. The convergence drivers were that local resources such as ecological resources, social resources and human resources were derived, and local culture was recreated through networking and tourism contents in the process of convergence. As a result of the convergence, social and economic sustainability has been maintained through eco-cultural tourism creating.
Third, I have developed a model to create a convergence tourism based on local culture resources. I conducted in - depth interviews with residents and experts who participated directly in rural tourism promotion, from the background to the results, and conducted empirical research based on this understanding. Finally, I have developed a model to create convergence tourism. As a result of the study, the drivers of convergence is to recognize the value of local resources. Human resources and cultural resources are included in internal resources. External resources include administrative support and social resources. As a result of this research, the drivers of convergence is to recognize the value of local resources. From among these, Internal resources include human resources and cultural resources and external resources include administrative support and social resources. The convergence process is a step of recreating the local culture, and its components include authenticity, levelness, and innovation. As a result of the convergence, eco -culture tourism is created and its components include restoration of traditional value and creation of future value.
The expected effects of this study are as follows.
First, it can be used to find strategies to diversify the tourism market, to expand the market, and to strengthen global competitiveness. It can be used as an empirical data on the utilization of convergence tourism research, policy and institution, marketing, product development etc. in various tourism fields such as academia, administration, NTO, and industry. This will help to eliminate entry barriers between industries, create new industries, create new jobs, and establish industrial cooperation systems.
Second, it can be applied to the '6th industrialization' support policy currently underway. Especially, it will help to find the policy for the 6th industrialization linked with the local resources and help build the system of cooperation between the residents and the administration in the local projects using the endogenous regional resources.
Third, the convergence tourism creation model developed in this study can be the theoretical foundation for developing business model of new tourism industry. It can be a new model to create a new growth engine in the tourism market that is in the mature stage as it is verified as an example of tourism resources that are scattered not only in rural areas but also in local areas.
Fourth, the model derived from this study can be proposed as a model that can cooperate with the region, industry, and administration. Horizontal decision making between actors in the model developed in this study could contribute to creating social value in this area, industry and administration, including the coevolution and the co-capital formation through it together.
