Basic Chinese character for classical Chinese education is not selected by level of difficulty, connectivity, and hierarchy. To consider level of difficulty, connectivity, and hierarchy between basic Chinese characters, we, first of all, have to set the level of Chinese characters. This setting criteria should be objective and positive. Therefore, this study aims to set the level of basic Chinese character for classical Chinese education using the eye tracker and the idea of abstraction of meaning.
Based on these critical minds, first, the eye tracker is instituted and used to set the level of Chinese characters, and second, data of eye movements is analyzed by statistical analysis. Using this data, phonological information, orthographic information, and the level of abstraction of meaning are analyzed by multi level perspective.
Through setting the level of Chinese characters, first, it acts on base research to set the level of 1,800 basic Chinese characters for classical Chinese education objectively, second, methodology of classical Chinese education study would be expanded by introducing eye tracker, and third, it establishes the foundation of setting the level of text difficulty and hierarchy of classical Chinese reading education.
