◼ This research aims to comprehend how four Northeast Asian countries, such as Korea, China, Japan, and Taiwan, define their own national identities and perceive others under what kinds of discourses of development, and how those discourses of development and national identities have been constructed and changed through what specific historical circumstances in each country.
◼ In the first research year, the research team conducted successful research as planned, focusing on the characteristics and statuses of dominant developmentalism and developmental discourses currently appearing in China, Japan, and Taiwan, along with their historical origins.
◼ In the second research year, the research team conducted intensified research on the emerging processes of developmentalism and developmental discourses in Korea, China, Japan, and Taiwan in their specific historical circumstances, along with the historical changes of each country’s identities and perceptions of others reflected in those discourses.
◼ In the third research year, the research team further concentrated on the historical aspects of change in each country’s developmental discourses, and also tried to obtain comparative perspectives on the characteristics of the four countries’ developmental discourses and their national identities and perceptions of others reflected in them.
◼ The research team has made a major achievement to publish 8 research papers total in 5 KCI-indexed academic journals throughout the 3 research years. Though the research period is over, the research on the topic is still going on and additional papers are expected to be published in the future according to research results.
◼ The research team successfully organized total three international academic conferences throughout the research years, by holding one conference each year in Korea, China, and Japan respectively. Through those conferences, the research team conducted both presentations of research and the collection of research materials. Furthermore, it pursued the internationalization of the research and broadened international research networks by having local researchers as participants in the conferences.
