The purpose of this study is to investigate the spontaneous recovery factors by constructing a short term study to explore the spontaneous recovery process from smartphone addiction and to apply it to the prevention and intervention strategy of smartphone addiction. To do this, we first constructed a biopsychosocial model including the main factors of voluntary recovery through literature analysis and selected a questionnaire to measure it. Then, we surveyed adult Internet panels using smartphones on a regular basis three times every four month. 1,768 at the first stage, 937 at the second stage, and 593 at the third stage answered the questionnaire. In the survey 3 times, diagnostic results from the S-scale showed that the group that was a high-risk or potential group at the first stage but changed into a general user group at the first and third stages was classified as a recovery group, the group that was a general user group at the first stage but changed into a high-risk or potential at the second and third stages was classified as an aggravating group, and the group that belonged to the same group at the first, second, and third stages was classified as a maintenance group. In order to examine the protection, risk, and maintenance factors of recovery, we conducted a comparative analysis of psychological and environmental variables, its results were the loneliness and irrational beliefs had a significant interaction effect between the stage and the group, the difference between the groups was significant in the depression and stress, and the difference between the stages was significant in life satisfaction and self-esteem.
In addition, in order to analyze the interrelation characteristics between the variables, we conducted correlation analysis and then set the model for the significant variables and verified it by regression analysis .As a result of verifying whether personality variables (impulsivity, self - control, emotional control, BAS, BIS) measured at the first stage predicted the change of addiction score, BAS and self - control ability predicted the change of addiction score significantly. Explanatory power was also reasonable. In addition, we analyzed the latent growth models to examine the changes and causal characteristics over time. As a result, it was found that smartphone addiction decreased linearly over time, and meanings of life were a variable of affecting initial value and change rate of smartphone addiction in the recovery group. Finally, we discussed how to apply the results of this research process to preventive approaches and interventions and how to contribute to the policy.
