Our team of researchers from the departments of language, history, and philosophy made a comprehensive analysis of the Qinghua bamboo-strip manuscripts. First of all, research members who specialize in ancient Chinese and paleography translated the primary texts of the manuscripts into Korean with commentaries. Given the results of earlier other studies on the Qinghua manuscripts, without depending on the received texts and their later commentaries, they did the translation based on the analysis of the texts in question according to the language habits of the Warring States period. The historians of the team rediscovered the history of early China by understanding the background of the period represented in the actual contents of the manuscripts which include events, people, and geographical environments. Research members in the field of philosophy analyzed various implications and ideas in terms of the context of thought in the manuscripts. In the process of team research, related subjects were selected by those of the various fields, who lead to reconstruct ancient Chinese history in more detail and shed new light on the formation of thought. The first-year research investigated the documents of the Shangshu to reconstruct the history of the Shang and Zhou dynasties. For the second year of research, we studied the culture of divination including magico-religious ideas and dealt with one hundred schools of thought in the Warring States period. The third-year research focused on political and diplomatic issues between the states of the Spring and Autumn Period by comparing the received texts with the excavated ones. In this process, we examined how the new historical and philosophical understandings of early China could be placed in our intellectual milieu.
