The purpose of this study is to historicize a Korean literature(韩国语文学) system in the 20th century and to seek a new way of Korean Language and Literature in the 21st century through a comparative research between the Department of Korean Language and Literature at Seoul National University and the Department of Korean Literature(朝鮮語文學) at Kim Il-sung University(金日成総合大学). To achieve this objective, first of all, a survey was conducted in relation to a system, organization and teacher composition of Kim Il-sung University. A variety of data led to having restructured the present status of teachers at Kim Il-sung University in the initial stage. Through this, Kim Il-sung University in the early days could be confirmed to be succeeding to the formation and the human group at Imperial University of Japan.
In terms of Korean language & literature system, a major in Korean linguistics(朝鮮語學) and Korean literature(朝鮮文學) was organized in the literature department at Imperial University of Japan. A key professor of the Korean literature(朝鮮語文學) major in the beginning stage included Kim Su-gyeong and Shin Gu-hyeon. These two persons, who are alumnus with a major in Korean linguistics(朝鮮語學) and Korean literature(朝鮮文學) at Keijo Imperial University(京城帝國大學), defected to North Korea in the early period and then established themselves as a key professor for a major in Korean Literature(朝鮮語文學) at Kim Il-sung University. Compared to Kim Su-gyeong on whom there are many researches, Shin Gu-hyeon is an unknown figure. Shin Gu-hyeon was the dominant personality of the party organization at Kim Il-sung University, and was involved even in the foundation of 'Writing & Language of Joseon(朝鮮語文) research group,' which was wholly responsible for the language policy of North Korea in the initial stage. He was proved to have played a key role in constructing Korean Literature(朝鮮語文學) until the 1950s. Even on top of this, many materials led to having clarified that Yun Se-pyeong, Ahn Ham-gwang, Goh Jeong-ok, Seok In-hae, Kim Ha-myeong, etc. were arrayed as the teaching staff of the Korean literature at Kim Il-sung University.
In addition to this research of Kim Il-sung University, the Department of Korean Literature at Seoul National University could be grasped to include 5 people such as Lee Byeong-gi, Jo Yun-je, Lee Hui-seung, Bang Jong-hyeon and Lee Sung-nyeong, who are professors in the early days of the establishment, to see the change of occupation by Lee Byeong-gi and Jo Yun-je after this, and to have a shift in generations of the teaching staff such as Jeong Byeong-uk, Jeon Gwang-yong, Lee Gi-mun, Jang Deok-sun, Jeong Han-mo and Kim Wan-jin who were appointed by Seoul National University as alumnus for the department of Korean literature at Seoul National University following the liberation. The analysis is now under way through collecting memoirs of professors in the early stage of Seoul National University including Jo Yun-je, Lee Sung-nyeong and Jeong Byeong-uk. If this work is completed, a full-scale comparison will be able to be carried out on researchers relevant to Korean language & literature between Seoul National University and Kim Il-sung University.
