본 논문은 비교과 몰입프로그램 중 하나인, ‘렌즈에세이(Lens Essay)’에 대한글쓰기 방법과 실제 운영했던 수업 사례를 소개하고, 이에 대한 특징 및 의미를드러내고자 한 연구이다. 렌즈에세이 글쓰기는 외국의 대학 글쓰기 교육과정과달라서, 국내의 대학 글쓰기 교육 담론 안에 들어와 있지 않았다. 따라서 이에대한 연구나 교육이 이루어진 경우가 거의 없다. 그럼에도 렌즈에세이는 한국의대학 글쓰기 교육에서도 충분히 활용할 수 있는 요소와 장점이 있다. 이를 통해궁극적으로 렌즈에세이 글쓰기가 의사소통에 유용하고 효과적인 한 방법임을 강조하였다. 나아가 대학에서 비교과뿐만 아니라, 교과로서 렌즈에세이 과목을 어떻게 개설해야 하는지 의견도 제시하였다. 렌즈에세이 쓰기는 비유적 글쓰기의 일종이지만 감성과 이성(논리)이 결합되는 글쓰기이고 그것을 렌즈를 통해 드러낸다. 따라서 렌즈에세이를 통해 개성적인 글쓰기, 창의적인 글쓰기를 할 수 있다. 특히 학문의 경계를 낮추어 타학문을 이해하고 융복합적 사고와 글쓰기를 하는데 유용하다는 점에서 그 가치와 의미가있다. 또한 정형화된 글쓰기 패턴을 넘어 자유롭게 글쓰기를 할 수 있는 폭이 넓다. 렌즈에세이 글쓰기 방법을 교과에서 활용한다면 신입생보다는 글쓰기의 기본과정을 배운, 고학년이나 그 과목을 이수한 학생에게 권장한다. 한편 글쓰기뿐만아니라 말하기에서도 렌즈에세이를 활용할 수 있다. 이 논문을 계기로 렌즈에세이 글쓰기에 대한 교육 및 연구가 확산되길 기대한다.

In this paper, I introduce the writing method and the actual case studies of ‘Lens Essay’, which is one of the extracurricular subjects and immersion programs, and attempt to reveal the features and meanings. Lens Essay writing is different from foreign college writing curriculum, so it is not in the discourse of college writing education in Korea. Therefore, research or education on this has rarely been done. Nevertheless, lens essays have elements and advantages that can be fully utilized in Korean college writing education. I also ultimately emphasize that lens essay writing is a useful and effective way to communicate. Furthermore, I suggest how lens essay subject should be opened in college not only as the extracurricular but also as the regular curriculum. Lens essay writing is a kind of figurative writing, but it is a writing that combines emotion and reason(logic) and reveals it through the lens. Lens essays allow to write individual style and creative writing. In particular, it has value and meaning in that it is useful for lowering the boundaries of scholarship to understand other studies and for converging thoughts and writing. In addition, beyond the standardized writing pattern, there is a wide range to write freely. If the lens essay writing method is used in the curriculum, it is recommended for seniors or students who have completed the basic course of writing rather than freshmen. On the other hand, lens essay can be used not only for writing but also for speaking. I hope that this paper may contribute to the education and research on writing lens essays.
